I would be quite surprised if the eventual winner is not one of Betis,
Fiorentina or Chelsea, but you can never tell how seriously teams will
take the less prestigious competitions.

On the balance of probabilities you would expect that to be the
case.

Chelsea seem to be taking it seriously enough, even if the
trophy itself is "less prestigious" in the big scheme of things.
If you're in it, you want to win it.

And on paper, they do seem to be in the easier half of the draw
when it comes to the path to the final.

One of those four will be a European semifinalist, probably against
Chelsea.

I'm a bit torn here. On one hand, it's nice to see the champions of
Poland, Slovenia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, or the Cypriot cup winners,
still competing in meaningful European games in March.

On the other, I can't help but think that this doesn't help the prestige
of the competition at all, nor increase interest in it. I'm fine with
Champions League and Europa League being kept completely separate now,
but I do wonder whether it wouldn't be better if the Conference League
received some infusion of higher quality sides from the Europa League
after the winter break.

Ciao,
Werner
