As far as I know we've never had a discussion about this.

I haven't got a clue myself. Mia Hamm?

So the rss-sanctioned Top 1 woman player ever is Mia Hamm? :-)

Is RSS really dead?

Or maybe just hardly anyone on rss follows women's football? There
wasn't much response to the best women's teams conversations either.

Mia Hamm, Megan Rapinoe, Abby Wambach, Michelle Akers, Marta, Birgit
Prinz, Christine Sinclair, Wendie Renard, Ada Hegerberg, Alexia
Putellas... all are good shouts. There were also some Italians who
dominated the game in the pre-WC era (Vignotto, Morace), but hard to say
how they compare.

Almost all of the above are strikers/forwards, because that's the way it
is.

I hadn't heard of Vignotto or Morace before. Would you like to tell us
more about them?

Elisabetta "Betty" Vignotto played in the 70s and 80s, scoring 467 goals
in 461 Serie A appearances, and 107 goals in 110 international caps. She
was pretty well-known in Italy in her heyday (I wouldn't be able to name
any other Italian NT players from that period, but I did know Vignotto)

Carolina Morace's career went from the 1970s to the 1990s: 415 Serie A
goals in 315 appearances in Serie A (!), and 105 goals in 153 caps for
the NT. She gained some fame in the late 1990s when Luciano Gaucci
(president of Perugia, who among other things bought gave Muammar
Gadafi's son a spot on Perugia's Serie A roster) appointed her to manage
Viterbese (a Serie C team). It was a gimmick that lasted just a couple
of matches. I wonder if it's still the only case of a woman being the
manager of professional football club.

It's not, but there aren't many:

Last May former youth coach Sabrina Wittmann was appointed as interim
manager of Ingolstadt in Germany's 3. Liga, and during the summer break
she has been promoted to the permanent head coach position.

Ciao,
