Tampa Bay really sucks at this playoffs thing.
divis 33 (TB and PIT players: 3)
bindero 31 (TB and PIT players: 5)
MH 30 (TB and PIT players: 4)
futbolmetrix 30 (TB and PIT players: 5)
We are about 50 points behind the leaders, so I dont think any of us will be
driving that Dodge Ram Truck and it is going to get worse before it gets
better based upon our picks. your lead growing slightly and MH taking
second, I assume.
The current overall leader, went all out Homer with all Columbus and Vegas
players, which once again proves the Homer strategy of betting it all on one
(or two) teams never fails.
The worst-ranked competitor has 3 points and Sidney Crosby as captain.
Do you win a smaller truck for getting last place?
So Calgary will go out in the first round as well, I think they were 2nd
overall in the standings?
Regular season means nothing.
Partly because refereeing changes substantially in the playoffs, or so
It has ever been thus
Oh, I know, but I would the discrepancy is bigger now than in the past,
given that the refs have cracked down on a lot of stuff they used to let
go during the regular season.

Blatant hooks (on Gaudreau) and stick in the face to
Valimaki not called yesterday. OTOH stupid finnicky calls (delay of
game for inadvertently flipping the puck over the boards) get made every
time (one to each team in the Flames' game yesterday). Never understood
that call - how is it delay of game when there is a clock that stops as
soon as the puck goes out ? How does it put the other team at a
disadvantage, given that it results in an offensive zone face-off for
them in nearly all cases, as opposed to the other team being in
possession of the puck. When an attacker shoots the puck and misses the
net by a mile, putting the puck over the boards, that is not called.
Wasn't this implemented after that girl was killed in the stands after
being hit by a puck? There is netting behind the goals protecting misfiring
attackers from such an outcome, there is none along the sides.
Those delay of games have been called for a long time and I don't think
(could be wrong) that it has anything to do with protecting the
spectators, given that it is only called when the puck is flipped out by
a defender in his own zone, without being deflected or touching the
boards or glass first. A deflected hard clearance is more of a hazard
to the audience. I believe the nets behind the boards were installed in
response to a fatality. I thought they would be an annoyance, but on my
return to the Saddledome this year after about a 20 year absence, I
found that you did not even notice the netting. Apparently we have the
second oldest arena in the league (behind the highly rennovated Madison
Square Gardens), and the owners are agitating for a new one, and for the
city to pay a substantial part of it. The city is not playing along, to
their credit - old it may be, but it looks and feels fine and has been
extensively upgraded at least twice.
